More about First Responder DementiaSpeak™ Workshops

Dillon’s Police Chief, Mark Heminghous, has put all the pieces together to offer a joint Dementia training for all of Summit County’s police and First Responders, as well as the community over two different days this fall.

October 18th and November 8th at the “Freemont Room” of the Summit County Senior Center, 83 Nancy’s Place, Frisco, CO 80443. Police, Firefighter’s, EMT and emergency room personnel, will hold two, “closed”, 4-hour workshops using the DementiaSpeak™, “Approach, Connect & Re-direct”.

By offering a choice of different days and times, it will make it easier for the First Responders to be able to attend. The focus of the training will be on helping someone with dementia to safety while ensuring that each Responder is using a consistent approach for the best outcome for the person.

More about The Community’s 4-hour DementiaSpeak™ Workshops

The Community’s 4-hour DementiaSpeak™ Workshops will be held at the same location, on the same days, but at opposite times. (October 18th, 1pm to 5pm or November 8th, 8am to noon). The focus of the DementiaSpeak™ Community Workshop focuses on Dementia from the perspective of people who live with, or spend time with those with Dementia.

This workshop has been designed for family, caregivers and the community (including businesses) who in many cases, have known these people before their diagnosis. Although both workshops include, “Approach, Connect & Re-direct”, the Community Workshop goes deeper into how different types of dementia can affect communication, behaviors and most importantly, how to focus on” the person who is in front of them”, as the dementia progresses.

The Goal of all the workshops is to bring Summit County together as a community, and to allow those with dementia to continue to feel valued for who they are today.

With the generous support of our event sponsors, the cost of the 4-hour community DementiaSpeak Workshop (normally $50) is FREE. Seating is limited to the first 50 people.
