This calendar lists events for seniors, boomers, older adults and family caregivers living in the San Antonio, Texas area. Many of the events feature companies and non-profit organizations presenting information to educate and inform seniors and their families on resources available in the community. Commander's House Adult and Senior Citizens Center
Where: Commander's House Adult and Senior Citizens Center, 645 S. Main, San Antonio, TX 78204 (map)
A hot home-cooked meal is served Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday at noon in partnership with H.E.B. The cost is $3 and a reservation is required. Every last Wednesday of the month, people with birthdays or anniversaries that month are honored with a musical presentation, cake or an ice cream social. The Commander’s House provides a wide array of programming for people 18 years of age or more with Safety Driving Classes, Book Club, Bunco, Bridge, Bingo, Dominoes, & Wii, Crocheting, Knitting & Quilting, Flower Making, Health and Wellness Programs Holiday luncheons and Dances and much more. Seniors ages 60 and older are invited to enjoy a mid-day meal provided by the Department of Human Services Nutrition Program. The meal is free, but a 50 cent donation is welcome. This center offers an assortment of great programs and activities from Arts and crafts to Field trips, Table games, Wii gaming, Billiards, Computer classes and much more. Senior Comprehensive Centers in San Antonio and Bexar County
Where: San Antonio and Bexar County, Texas (map)
In 2003, the City and County Joint Commission on Elderly Affairs, an advisory board comprised of seniors 60+, recommended the creation of centers where seniors could congregate to share meals, participate in activities and access needed services. The centers offer meal programs, social services, arts and crafts, exercise classes, recreation and dance, computer classes, basic health screenings, work search programs and much more. Learn More

Find a The Death Cafe Event

With a Death Cafe, the idea is to get people from all backgrounds together over tea, coffee and delicious cake, to simply talk about death, a normal aspect of life that is generally feared by our culture. The hope of the Death Cafe movement is to simply normalize this phase of life by allowing groups of people to talk about death. A Death Cafe is not a support group or a means of selling services, but is instead a simple social gathering. There have been Death Cafes all over Colorado and the US. Learn More
