Senior Comprehensive Centers in San Antonio and Bexar County
Location: Greater San Antonio Area

In 2003, the City/County Joint Commission on Elderly Affairs, an advisory board comprised of seniors 60+, recommended the creation of centers where seniors could congregate to share meals, participate in activities and access needed services.It was through the vision of the Elderly Commission that these centers were realized and now benefit seniors of the San Antonio and Bexar County community. The centers offer meal programs, social services, arts and crafts, exercise classes, recreation and dance, computer classes, basic health screenings, work search programs and much more.

Nix Health Foundation Senior Gold Smart Living Seminars - Last Wednesday of the Month
Location: Jefferson C. Davis Learning Center, 5th floor Nix Medical Center

Address: 414 Navarro, San Antonio, TX
The Nix Health Foundation is committed to improving quality of life by offering meaningful programs and services that support health and wellness. Seminars are held at the Jefferson C. Davis Learning Center on the fifth floor of the Nix Medical Center located at 414 Navarro. Cost is $7.00 and includes lunch, parking and the lecture. If you’d like a light stretching regimen, come at 10:30 prior to the Smart Living Seminar. RSVP to 210-579-3157 by the Friday before the seminar. Reservations are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you need to cancel, please call at least 24 hours prior to the seminar.

Commander's House Adult and Senior Citizens Center

A hot home-cooked meal is served Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday at noon in partnership with H.E.B. The cost is $3 and a reservation is required. Every last Wednesday of the month, people with birthdays or anniversaries that month are honored with a musical presentation, cake or an ice cream social. The Commander’s House provides a wide array of programming for people 18 years of age or more with Safety Driving Classes, Book Club, Bunco, Bridge, Bingo, Dominoes, & Wii, Crocheting, Knitting & Quilting, Flower Making, Health and Wellness Programs Holiday luncheons and Dances and much more. Seniors ages 60 and older are invited to enjoy a mid-day meal provided by the Department of Human Services Nutrition Program. The meal is free, but a 50 cent donation is welcome. This center offers an assortment of great programs and activities from Arts and crafts to Field trips, Table games, Wii gaming, Billiards, Computer classes and much more. Join in the fun at Virginia Marie Granados Adult and Senior Center, a place where friends meet. Seniors are invited to participate in many recreational, educational and social programs. With a focus on encouraging healthy lifestyles, both physical and mental, a variety of classes are offered for your enjoyment. Trainer Certification - Teepa Snow’sPositive Approach to Care

This is an event for professionals that work with seniors. Approved registrants complete training curriculum prior to attending classroom training in order to earn PAC Trainer Certification. This certification is designed for individuals who wish to train others in Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care (PAC) philosophy, providing dementia related awareness, knowledge, and skill development in a classroom, community, or support group setting. Certified PAC Trainers will be equipped to provide accurate, relevant, and helpful content in short training segments. Trainers will be provided several “training kits” which include a training outline, DVD footage, handouts, approved marketing collateral, and CEU application guidelines.
