Bexar Area Agency on Aging (BAAA)

The Bexar Area Agency on Aging (BAAA) is part of the Alamo Area Council of Governments It is one of 28 Area Agencies on Aging in the State of Texas. BAAA plans, coordinates, and administers comprehensive services authorized by the Older Americans Act and the Texas Department of Aging for Bexar County seniors. Seniors who are over 60 years of age, caregivers of individuals age 60 and over and Medicare beneficiaries of any age are eligible for services. Medicare Prescription Drug Discount Cards
In 2006 Medicare will offer comprehensive prescription drug coverage. This voluntary benefit is expected to provide seniors with prescription drug savings. People with Medicare who have lower incomes will save more through both the Medicare-approved cards and the prescription drug coverage. Ombudsman Program in Bexar County
The Ombudsman program uses specially trained and certified individuals (Ombudsman) to provide advocacy services to residents of long-term care facilities. They also provide information to residents, staff, and family members about residents' rights, nursing facility requirements, and helps identify resources in or out of the facility. Star Chapter and Safe Return for People with Alzheimer's Disease
The Star Chapter has developed collaborations with various businesses through out South Central Texas to assist with the enrollment paperwork and photos of persons for the Alzheimer's association's Safe Return program. For a list of enrollment sides call 800-272-3900 or visit their website as www.alztexas.org. Limited funds are available to help family caregivers pay the enrollment fee of $45.00. These funds have been made possible by a grant from the Alamo Area Council of Governments, Bexar Area Agency on Aging and Alamo Area Agency on Aging.

The Movers & Shakers - A San Antonio Support Group for ET
Do you have trouble with the "Shakes" when drinking, eating, writing or speaking? There's help available for Essential Tremor or ET. There is a local San Antonio support group, "The Movers & Shakers", that meets frequently. The group is the first such support group in Texas.
