The Archdiocese of New Orleans was created as a Diocese on April 25, 1793. It encompasses 4,208 square miles in eight civil parishes: Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany and Washington. The Archdiocese Ministry is broad in education and community. Part of that Ministry is reaching out to senior residents. The Archdiocese of New Orleans offers double the outstanding senior housing options for its community of seniors within the New Orleans area.

About Chateau
Opened in 1977, Chateau de Notre Dame marked the beginning of the Horizon Program for the elderly, developed under Archbishop Phillip M. Hannan for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Chateau de Notre Dame, French for "House of Our Lady," was founded as a community of Independent & Assisted Living Apartments and a Nursing Home. The Mission of Chateau de Notre Dame is to provide a continuum of compassionate, quality and affordable care that meets the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of each senior resident - from Independent Living to Nursing Home Skilled Care. In doing so, we seek to ensure our residents' maximum independence, dignity, privacy and individuality through the delivery of custom health and social services within a supportive, faith-based environment.

Life at the Chateau

At Chateau de Notre Dame, we believe that remaining mentally and physically active is key to maximizing quality of life. As such, we encourage residents to take part in the many individual and group activities offered here, ranging from arts and crafts to reading, games, parties, movies, the ever-popular Bingo, and more. Most importantly, however, we believe that the most fulfilled life is one strengthened by faith, lived in a supportive environment built on strong spiritual foundations. At the forefront of our Mission, Chateau de Notre Dame provides deeply faith-based care to assist and encourage residents of all faiths along their own individual journeys.

Services
At Chateau de Notre Dame, you can live Independently and retire here in our apartments, resting assured that if your lifestyle, medical and care needs ever change, Chateau de Notre Dame's facilities and services will adapt and grow to meet them. We offer Independent & Assisted Living Apartments as well as skilled nursing services.

Dining
Delicious well-balanced meals are served three times a day, seven days a week, under the supervision of a registered dietician who ensures the special dietary needs of our nursing home residents are accommodated. Meals are served in our spacious dining room with a beautiful view of the courtyard area. Independent & Assisted Living residents also enjoy meals in their own separate dining area overlooking the courtyard.

Religious Services
Services welcoming people of all faiths, visiting seminarians and other spiritual directors in ministering to the individual needs of each resident join our Chateau de Notre Dame's full-time Pastoral Care department. Our chaplain in our Beautiful downstairs chapel says mass daily. Eucharistic Ministers are available to administer the Eucharist to residents in their rooms upon request. Resident's can also enjoy some quiet meditation in our small chapel on the ground floor of the apartment building. Arrangements may be made for visiting pastors/chaplains to visit as requested.

Activities
Our monthly activity calendar is full of events to keep everyone actively engaged, energized and involved. Regular socials, in particular, are a delightful way for residents to form lasting, rewarding friendships within this wonderful community of peers. To look your best, we have a Hair Salon open 5 days a week and staffed by two full time beauticians. For grocery shopping and other planned group outings, we have a community van to provide comfortable and convenient transportation. See our Calendar of Events for our monthly activity calendar.

Amenities
Meals, laundry and housekeeping services are available to our nursing home residents. A podiatrist and Dentist also visit the community regularly for on-site appointments.

Several private rooms are available for personal visits and may also be reserved for private gatherings. Each activity room has a large screen television, and our main dining room is available for our large activities. Transportation to doctor's appointments is also available.

Rehabilitation Therapy
Our Rehabilitation Center provides trained therapists to work with our residents at Chateau de Notre Dame. The Physical Therapy program seeks to restore normal function to the neuromuscular and skeletal systems, relieve pain and prevent disability. The Occupational Therapy program addresses those problems that interfere with functional performance, including many activities of daily living. The Speech Therapy program focuses on residents experiencing problems in the areas of communication, swallowing and cognition. Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy are available to all residents upon written doctor's orders and can be covered by most insurance policies, including Medicare Part B.

Wynhoven Healthcare Center opened in 1987 from funds raised by the Horizon group. Monsignor Wynhoven provided the vision and the impetus to develop programming to meet the needs of the elderly on the West Bank in Jefferson Parish. Wynhoven Healthcare Center provides services ranging from skilled nursing care, short-term rehabilitation to hospice and end of life care. The facility was originally opened and operated by the Holy Cross Sisters of New Orleans. Wynhoven is a Catholic faith-based community offering Pastoral care and comfort. We are a non-profit nursing home operated by the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Conveniently located across from West Jefferson Medical Center, Wynhoven provides 24-hour nursing care for the frail elderly. Community areas include: attractive dining room and day room locations, chapel, beauty shop, coffee shop and activity room, as well as a large therapy gym space.

Wynhoven Healthcare Center offers residents a home-like environment in private or semi-private rooms. Each room is fully furnished and includes closet and storage space. Day rooms, located across from each nurse’s station, provide a congenial atmosphere for residents to converse, watch television, or entertain family and friends.
