May is Older Americans Month
Older Americans Month is celebrated each May to honor and recognize older Americans for the contributions they make to families, communities and society. The theme for 2012 - “Never Too Old To Play,” encourages older Americans to stay engaged, active and involved in their own lives and in their communities.

The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program's purpose is to educate older adults receiving Medicare and Medicaid benefits to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud. SMP programs nationwide recruit volunteers in the effort to empower older adults to protect themselves from fraud, and are funded by the US Administration on Aging.

Salute to Seniors from Colorado Gerontological Society

The Salute to Seniors is the largest senior event and fair in the state of Colorado, and for over twenty years has been known as the premier event for seniors to combine information, education, entertainment and friendship. The Salute features over 100 exhibitors including representatives of long term care, health, entertainment, advance planning, banking, senior support, fitness, food assistance, leisure, pet services and many more. Live entertainment and activities throughout the day gives attendees plenty to do, from bingo to dance lessons, and from American bandstand to retro movies. The Salute also offers informational programs on topics like health care reform, how to plan for end of life, maximizing health and fitness and others.

The 17th Annual Senior Lifestyle Expo

The Northeastern Illinois Agency on Aging will host the 17th Annual Senior Lifestyle Expo at the Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace on August 21 and 22, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This past year’s expo attracted over 4,200 adults and their families. With the support of our sponsors – Humana, AARP and the Chicagoland Senior News, the 16th Annual Senior Lifestyle Expo was the place for Chicago area seniors to receive cutting edge information on a wide range of products and services and have a lot of fun! The 2011 Expo featured over 100 exhibitors, an entertainment stage, health and wellness info, interactive activities and educational seminars. Back again, the Expo hosted its Senior Idol competition where talented 60+ year olds sang, danced and entertained their way onto the Drury Lane stage to win adulation from the audience and cash prizes to boot!

Women's Health & Fitness Day
Women’s Health & Fitness Day is the nation’s largest annual health promotion event for women of all ages. This year’s event is set for Wednesday, September 26, 2012, and in future years, is always be held on the last Wednesday in September. This unique national program with participation by local organizations throughout the U.S. focuses attention on the importance of regular physical activity and health awareness for women. The event is similar in concept to its “sister” event — National Senior Health & Fitness Day — the nation’s largest older adult health promotion program held every May. Women’s Health & Fitness Day will also be part of a new National Women’s Health & Fitness Week, to be held annually the last week in September.
