    Learn more about The Centenarian Project:

    The Centenarian Project is a promotional activity of the Commission on Aging to celebrate the lives of Centenarians across the state, recognize their individual century of achievement, and focus the attention of all Coloradans on the political and social issues of aging. The Centenarian Project recognizes seniors who have achieved the age of 100 or older by awarding centenarian certificates prepared by the Commission and signed by the Governor. Certificates are usually awarded at birthday parties or other family functions and can be presented by Commission members.

Support groups are an excellent means for consumers experiencing disabilities to share their encounters and learn about available resources. This year's Colorado Senior Lobby Annual Meeting will be held in Castle Rock, Colorado at the Castle Rock Recreation & Senior Center. Colorado Senior Lobby is a non-profit, non-partisan, all volunteer organization, that speaks with a unified voice for all Coloradoans, particularly those who are 60 years of age and older. The Lobby focuses on issues and promotes beneficial legislation, while remaining strictly non-partisan and not supporting any specific political party or candidate. Plan to attend the annual meeting to learn more about the group and consider joining. This event is free!

Families will find a lot to do and see at the Colorado State Fair, and for not a lot of money. From educational exhibits to the best of Colorado youth projects in everything from food to handmade clothing to the livestock show and overall agricultural experience. The Horse Show area has plenty to see and the Department of Agriculture’s own Agriculture Pavilion lets kids experience a variety of farm animals and hands-on activities including “crop boxes,” and a roping arena. In addition to showcasing Colorado agriculture, the annual event features one of the country’s largest traveling carnivals, artwork, crafts, food competitions, thrilling rodeo action, a wide variety of food and merchandise booths and a Fiesta Day honoring Colorado's ties to the Hispanic culture. Innovations in Aging Collaborative (IIAC) has received funding from the City of Colorado Springs to address the major issues that are facing Baby Boomers aging in the community and new retirees moving into Colorado Springs. For September IIAC is discussing “Housing Choices and Livable Communities.” Community members and prospective residents, organizations and businesses are invited to attend. Individual tickets are $30 and include beverages and a continental breakfast. More details will be posted on the website closer to the date of the event.
