The first ever Parade of Retirement Homes was held in the Pikes Peak region on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th 2009. The event featured the area's premier active senior living communities. Six Pikes Peak area retirement communities were showcased in the two-day event featuring free food, drinks, entertainment and tours. Each community drew between 300-500 prospective residents or their families with some coming from out of state. Communities typically average five prospective resident tours a week so this was a very popular and successful local event.

“This was a phenomenal turnout,” said Shannon Rogers, Executive Director of the non-profit Senior Resource Council. "We had visitors travel from out-of-state to see what Colorado Springs could offer active seniors looking for retirement options. We're excited to see the event grow in coming years," said Rogers.

The Palisades at Broadmoor Park captured the honor "Best of Show" in the state's first Parade of Retirement Homes. The Colorado Springs event was also featured on MSNBC and in AARP's national publication. Guests who visited all six communities voted on award eight categories. The winners are:
