The Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida was created in 1978. We are one of eleven Area Agencies on Aging in the State of Florida. We contract with a "care coordinator" within each of the seven counties. The "care coordinator", or case manager, assesses each client to determine his/her service needs. Then, the care coordinator determines if the client is eligible to receive services within the program funding administered by the Area Agency on Aging.

Each state has a State Unit on Aging (SUA) that oversees services and benefits to state residents delivered through local Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs). Services delivered through AAAs can include information, resources and services for at home meals, homemaker assistance and other services to make independent living at home a viable option. SUAs and AAAs were established under the Older Americans Act (OAA) in 1973 to respond to the needs of Americans aged 60 and older in local communities. Contact the AAAs in your area for more information.
