Long Term Care Ombudsman
The Ombudsman is an advocate for residents of long-term
care facilities, or their friends or families, who work to protect the health, safety, welfare and rights of
Alabama's senior citizens. The job of the ombudsman is to protect the rights of residents and ensure that
residents receive fair treatment and quality care. Ombudsmen investigate and resolve complaints, make
friendly visits to facilities, and ensure that residents are receiving the legal, financial, social,
rehabilitative, and other services to which they are entitled. Acting as a mediator between residents,
family members and facility staff, educating about resident's rights and providing information to the public
are additional responsibilities. Anyone can use the services of the Ombudsman, including residents or
employees of long-term care facilities, or their friends or families.
In order to file a complaint to the Ombudsman office,
one may call by phone, put it in writing, or set up and appointment. Everything is kept confidential unless
the complainant or the resident gives permission to use the information that is given. Anyone who is in a
position to threaten or interfere with rights, health, safety or welfare of a resident can be investigated
by the Ombudsman office. To find out more call 1-800-AGE-LINE. |
