Colorado Springs Showcase of Retirement Communities Presents FOUR of the Pikes Peak Region’s Best Senior Living Options …
- The Inn at Garden Plaza
- Liberty Heights
- MacKenzie Place
- The Palisades at Broadmoor Park
The 3rd Annual Showcase of Retirement Communities will be held at the Pikes Peak region’s premier senior living communities Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. Participating communities in this year’s event include the Inn at Garden Plaza, Liberty Heights, MacKenzie Place, and the Palisades at Broadmoor Park. Today’s independent living communities are designed for active people ages 55+ and offer an easy lifestyle free of maintenance but full of exciting choices about how to spend your days.
Consider the Showcase an opportunity to “party hop” as guests are treated to complimentary food, drink, music and tours at four of the area’s independent living retirement communities. The Showcase is free and open for the public to explore each of the participating communities in any order. Free parking is available at every community.
The resort-style atmospheres offer amenities such as restaurant-style dining, state-of-the-art fitness centers with personal trainers, health and wellness programs, housekeeping, libraries, internet cafés, swimming pools and gardens – all within walking distance from your front doorstep.
With mild winters and more than 300 days of sun each year, Colorado weather is unbeatable! The city is home to the magnificent Air Force Academy and the inspiring Olympic Training Center. For the nature-lover, Garden of the Gods offers both soothing trail paths and more intense climbing or off-trail opportunities. The area provides something for everyone, just a short ride from each of the participating communities.
Many communities offer daily transportation to local shopping, museums and special events. From investing workshops to computerized brain games, residents stay sharp. Though cable and satellite television are also offered, most seniors opt for activities like ballroom dancing, Wii sports and a long list of daily club meetings and social outings. The variety of activities encourages residents to branch out and try new things, or hone skills they already have.
Today’s retirement communities rival country club-like college campuses where residents find friendships and share common interests. In addition to beautiful facilities, they offer first-class transportation, shopping and recreation. Some even offer international group travel to Europe and Asia. These opportunities can facilitate physically and socially active lives for seniors.
Maintaining an active social life has been shown to benefit seniors. Not only does the experience provide the immediate gratification of social involvement and relief from loneliness, individuals will continue to reap the benefits in the form of lowered incidence of physical and mental disabilities over time. In the case of a loss, having a network of friends and other social outlets provides support and can act as a buffer against depression.
Residents enjoy meeting retired professionals, fellow veterans, and lifelong homemakers. Some spend their days with their spouse, living maintenance-free lifestyles while others find new companionship after becoming a widower. Residents can benefit from having on-site banking, floral and gift stores, and physicians who make house calls. Residents at most sites have the option to treat themselves to massages, manicures and pedicures at an in-house salon.
Each community employs highly trained staff from healthcare professionals and concierge service to award-winning executive chefs. Communities offer a host of first-class dining options from a la carte menus to meal plans. Rates vary from ‘all-inclusive’ to base rates where you can add services a la carte. Some offer month-to-month rental with no buy-in, while others offer the ability to purchase homes or condos on site with laundry and kitchens. Have pets you can’t part with? No problem, most communities allow small dogs, cats and fish.
Some of the communities are continuum care campuses where residents have access to assisted care and memory care if required. Experienced staff provides caring and compassionate service to older adults in a safe and comfortable environment. With on-site security, emergency-alert pull cords and daily check-in systems, out-of-state family members can be assured their loved ones are getting the support they deserve.
The rising population of people over 60 in Colorado is expected to increase 49% by 2015 to an estimated 970,000. Within this population women make up 70% of Coloradoans age 85 and older and are three times as likely to live alone. By attending the Showcase of Retirement Communities seniors will be able to learn about the Independent housing available in the Pike Peak’s region.
Everyone who completes the Showcase Passport by touring three out of the four communities will be eligible to vote in the Peoples Choice “Best of” Awards. Communities will be competing in several categories including Best Dining, Friendliest Staff, Best Place for Mom or Dad, Best Services and Amenities, Best Activities Program, Best Value, Best Colorado Landscape and Best of Show. Come enjoy the event and see that Colorado Springs has so much to offer for your retirement.
