There are millions of Americans providing care to family members. Caregiving in the United States reveals over 44 million Americans, or an estimated 21% of all U.S. households, provide care for an adult family member or friend 18 and older. These numbers will increase as the American population continues to age, thus adding to the caregiver crisis in this country.
Today, many family caregivers are looking outside the home for support. Many seniors do not need constant care but could use assistance with laundry, meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation, companionship and a variety of other non-medical tasks all designed to help you maintain the quality of life. The hope for most seniors is to age gracefully in the place they feel most comfortable, their home.
Companion and home help services allow for more independence and freedom to choose the daily activities that seniors enjoy the most. Having a friendly and understanding caregiver can enhance one's lifestyle and allow for someone to continue making independent decisions. Families seeking outside help can find someone that is compassionate, warm, reliable, and has the ability to relate to senior issues.
