RTD offers convenient, low-cost transit options. Whether it's for convenience or necessity, many seniors depend on family and friends for rides to doctor appointments, shopping and errands. Some may not be aware that RTD offers many affordable transportation options specifically designed to help seniors get around the metro area safely, conveniently and independently. RTD's regular scheduled bus and light rail system provides wheelchair-accessible service at discounted fares for seniors. In addition, RTD provides the following special services that offer seniors flexibility and convenience:
Call-n-Ride, available in select locations, is a curb-to-curb transportation service that transports riders within a designated geographic service area. By simply calling at least one hour in advance, seniors can be transported in a compact van or small bus that is easy to board and wheelchair accessible. Trips can be scheduled up to two weeks in advance.
SeniorRide, which serves close to 50,000 senior citizens per year, provides prearranged bus service for groups of 10 or more to cultural, educational and entertainment events. Riders make reservations in advance for destinations scheduled by RTD monthly to enjoy activities like skiing, museum visits and lunch at area restaurants. Midday Shopper provides pre-arranged weekday trips to area shopping centers, with Saturday Shopper offering service to any preferred shopping destination when reserved five days in advance.
RTD also provides curb-to-curb Access-a-Ride service for those with disabilities who are unable to ride, board or exit a regular accessible fixed-route bus and/or have a specific impairment-related condition that makes it impossible to travel to and from a bus stop.
Discounted senior fares for all RTD regular and special services are extremely affordable, with many round-trips costing as little as 75¢. It's a great time in life to sit back and enjoy the ride.
