What is RVing?

Written by SeniorsResourceGuide.com Staff

RVing, basically began after the first world war, ingenuity saw that packing a tent, blankets and cooking gear into cars made mobile travel convenient. The term Tin Can Tourist was coined as drivers of Tin Lizzies ventured across the country living off canned foods and camping along the way. By the 1920's Americans were building little homes and adding them to the chassis of their vehicles creating the first Recreational Vehicle otherwise known as RV's.

By the 1930's RV's were produced with beds, dinettes, battery operated electricity and water tanks. As recreational Vehicles caught on to the public, this caused a need for more campgrounds with larger facilities.

After the Second World War, RV Manufacturing increased production as more Americans sought to be mobile and adventuresome. By the 1950's travel trailers became the towable RV's offering build it yourself kits or custom 30 ft models. Since then RV- manufacturers have developed Recreational Vehicles in all shapes and sizes.
