The Passaic County Department of Senior Services, Disability and Veterans' Affairs is pleased to have an opportunity to introduce the Department to the readers of the Seniors Resource Guide Publication.
We have recently moved our administrative offices to 930 Riverview Drive in Totowa. The new building, located at the Totowa Business Center, is spacious, has plenty of parking and accommodates services for the elderly, disabled and veteran residents of Passaic County. Our facility also includes large and beautifully decorated Adult Day Care and Nutrition activity rooms. Nearly one hundred seniors visit daily to enjoy social and recreational activities and a delicious hot meal. In addition to the dinning rooms, there is a craft room that appeals to participants with a creative side and living rooms to relax, read a book or watch a movie. Weekly activities include theme parties, board games, music and scheduled field trips. The Department has extended programs to include free afternoon wellness, health and educational group classes such as dance lessons, cooking classes, fitness classes, Tai chi, Aromatherapy, Cardiac Care, and Medication Management. Volunteers were recruited to expand existing programs and begin new ones. For the first time possible, Passaic County will be hosting a Christmas Day Dinner celebration for homebound elderly residents who would otherwise be spending the holiday alone. The Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Department will make sure area seniors feel the love of the season and as they are welcomed as family. The event is sponsored and supported through private donations.
The redesign of the department allows for the development and implementation of services and programs that have a positive impact. The elderly, veterans and disabled individuals need many of the same services, particularly long-term care services. Our professional, trained and experienced staff provides direct services and programs such as counseling on Medicare Part D, nutrition education, information and assistance on senior entitlements and benefits, transportation, meals-on-wheels and care management.
The dedicated staff at the Department of Senior Services, Disability and Veterans' Affairs is committed to Passaic County residents, their families and caregivers. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive range of services that will enhance and preserved the independence of older adults. We will continue to work diligently to expand and improve services and to ensure access to these services.
