Thank You To All Who Helped Us To Our Feet After KatrinaWho would have thought such devastation? The Gulf Coast and Pine Belt were knocked about by the brutal, persistent winds of Hurricane Katrina. Some of us were flooded beyond comprehension. With trees across our roofs and a tidal surge in our homes, it was more than our communities could handle. As soon as this event made news, preparations for assistance began. As Katrina slowly moved northward leaving clear skies in her wake, in came the numerous relief groups from churches across the nation, the Red Cross, Salvation Army, National Guard, FEMA, Police and Fire Departments, and many, many others. Without them we would be worse off than we are today. The water, food, and ice were very helpful; what was most helpful was the love and caring that came with it. Churches from virtually every denomination had members, young and old, across the wind and water-torn counties. One look in their eyes told you they cared and wanted to help. Many were previously in the same situation as us, having experienced hurricanes in Florida, Alabama, North and South Carolina, Georgia and other states. They knew what we needed and they delivered! It seems that "Thank You" is not enough; it doesn't seem to fulfill the gratitude we owe these wonderful people. Yet, love and caring can only be repaid with the same given to others. The saying "pay it forward" seems to be the only way to repay all those who helped us. So, thank you. We will "pay it forward " with kindness, caring and love for our neighbors. |
