Fear...Denial...DepressionArticle submitted by The Home Sight of Colorado. Have you ever experienced any of these? Frequently our clients experience one or more of these. Vision loss complicates everyday tasks such as dressing, cooking, taking medication, reading, and the list goes on. Some try to deny this loss of vision. Others do their best to get along, unfortunately at times unsafely. As our adult population ages, many with low vision will struggle to remain independent in their own homes. However, they do not have to struggle if they a special low vision program from Home Sight of Colorado; a non-profit Medicare certified home health care company. Our focus is on those desiring to reclaim their independence. Our therapists are low vision specialists with a view to provide each individual the tools they need to remain in their homes. Areas of focus are safety, environment and leisure. As a non-profit company we provide some assistive devices at no cost to our clients. We instruct in the proper use of the equipment, as well as address many other needs such as medication administration and how to access community resources. We have many solutions for those with low vision. An individual care plan is built for the client in cooperation with a medical doctor, a registered nurse, and an occupational therapist. The plan focuses on areas such as home modification, mobility training, item organization and identification as well as meal planning and preparation. |
