Hey Veteran...Did You Know?
Article submitted by Anonymous.
As a senior advisor regarding legal and financial estate issues, I am constantly challenged to create the most appropriate way to
preserve as well as provide financial resources for my clients and their families when the time comes that their loved ones can no
longer do it alone. As I am sure you all are aware of, today's senior adults are living longer than ever before. This however is
creating a new dilemma for thousands of families across this country; that being 1 out of 2 will receive some type of long term
skill or nursing care in their lifetime but according to AARP, we are receiving this care much later in life than ever before. This
is true largely in part due to the most popular intermediate care choices that are available to all. Those that select the services
of Assisted Living Centers and those of Professional Home Care Givers are enjoying a stage of life that has just become popular in
the past 10-15 years. The problem that is constantly arising from these much needed services is that the only way to pay for these
services is by private pay and those that were fortunate enough to purchase insurance coverage that provides payment for such
services and lifestyle. Tennessee is ranked at the bottom in providing assistance to those in need for these intermediate care
services when compared to other states, so you can guess how ecstatic I was when I discovered that our military service men and
women were possibly entitled to benefits that had all but been forgotten. Benefits to those that served at least 90 days of active
war time duty, even though you were not actually in a war zone, are actually available providing you meet some simple yet important
criteria. In order to receive one of the four programs available to veterans, you must meet a medically need criteria as well as an
income and asset test criteria. The most popular benefit being applied for today is that known as the AIDS & ATTENDANT
REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM. This benefit has "nothing" to do with having to be service related disabled in fact the wording in
the law states that you must be disabled OR over the age of 65. Which one are you? Hey Veteran...wouldn't you like to discover if
you might qualify for assistance that will assist you in paying for some much needed care. Contact your Assisted Living Center in
your area or a Professional Home Care Provider for additional information, to see if any of the four veteran benefit programs are
right for you. |
