The Veterans Administration offers a little known and much under-utilized pension enabling qualified veterans to receive free home care. This may include assistance with activities such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, transportation, and personal care (i.e., bathing, dressing). The pension is formally known as Aid & Attendance for War-time Veterans. Qualification is based in large part on service to our country, the existence of a non-service connected disability, and financial need. The pension is different from other forms of compensation from the VA in that it must be spent entirely on home care services.
What makes this pension such a wonderful program is that it rewards those who sacrificed so much by serving our country so gallantly during time of war, and more specifically serves an under-served community of those who could otherwise not afford home care. Financial need is determined by evaluating the veteran's family income, non-reimbursable medical expenses, and liquid assets.
Veterans Salute is a unique care management plan that adds significant value for the veteran or their surviving spouse by providing assistance with completing the application to receive the pension, gathering all of the necessary supporting documentation, and beginning home care service as soon as possible.
When our armed services needed our veterans, they were there to serve and protect our country and our ideals. Now that they may need help and assistance within their homes, it is about time that they receive some service in return.
