Help Seniors Stay IndependentArticle submitted by Joyce Marlin, Marketing Director of Comfort Keepers. It is estimated that up to 7,000,000 women have become caregivers to their elderly parents and other relatives. They struggle to cope with the exhaustion, loneliness, mental and physical demands of this responsibility. Often they are caring for children, as well, becoming part of the "Sandwich Generation." Outside of assisted living facilities there has been little in the way of help and comfort for these home care givers...at least until now. Companion Care – a category of home care is an affordable solution for older individuals or couples capable of managing their physical needs, but who may require non-medical assistance. Trained, screened, bonded and insured caregivers provide light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, shopping and transportation services. Research shows that the older people that remain at home live longer and happier lives than do people of similar circumstances who are forced to leave their homes to live in other environments. For these and other family members in need of assistance with elder care, companion care is a valuable resource available to meet the needs of all those caught in the "Caregiving Crunch." |
