Understanding LifecareArticle submitted by Rosemary Hudgins, Alzheimer's Foundation of the South, Mississippi Division. With so many types of communities to choose from, it is important when considering retirement options, to have a clear understanding of what is being offered to you. Lifecare is an exciting retirement option for people who want to plan for their future, and it is being implemented in communities all over the country. What is lifecare? Lifecare is a very special retirement plan that insures, once you are accepted and move into the retirement community, that you will be taken care of for the rest of your life regardless of your physical and financial situation. Communities that have multiple levels of care are able to offer this lifetime health care, within one campus. Why is lifecare the right choice for me? You will experience a lifestyle that enables you to meet and interact with interesting people, as well as spend more time on what matters most to you. Residents are encouraged to live as independently as possible, for as long as possible, but assistance is there, if the time comes that it is needed, at no extra charge. There is no need to spend time worrying about the escalating costs of nursing home care, because when joining a lifecare community, you are not just choosing a place to call home; you are also protecting your assets against the rising costs of long-term care. If you are a couple, choose lifecare while you are both in good health and can enjoy the lifestyle. It makes the move easier, and you'll have more fun. You can make new friends, become involved in volunteering, travel and have healthy dining options. When one of you needs health care, it is available right on the premises. Often, the only additional cost for having one marital partner in the independent living and one transitioned to another level of care, is the additional meals provided. What is lifecare? It is a lifestyle choice. It's peace of mind. It's a way to start enjoying your retirement and exploring new opportunities! |
