Enrolling All Prescription Drug Savings Programs Is As Easy As A-B-CArticle submitted by Ms. Ganier. The Access to Benefits Coalition helps men and women over 60 years of age find ways to lower their prescription costs through a variety of drug savings programs. By calling ABC and letting them search what programs are available, seniors can get free prescription drug or drug discounts they otherwise might not know about, said ABC Director Donna Ganier. "Many individuals over 60 years old, with lower incomes, especially in the African American, Hispanic and Vietnamese communities, are unaware of the options available through Medicare, pharmaceutical 'wraparound' programs, and existing state or company programs," said Ms. Ganier. "My organization can access the programs offering free and discount drug programs for the individual, and every senior has some discount benefit available to them. But to find out what is out there, that adult, their loved one or caregiver has to contact us," Ms. Ganier said. The Coalition is working in conjunction with the Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs, the Louisiana Senior Rx Program, and the U.S. Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services. Ms. Ganier's program offers confidential, individual, step-by-step guidance on how to apply for and enroll in the programs that work for a senior. Enrolling in these programs will not reduce other benefits the senior already receives. "We know its hard paying for the drugs seniors need. But there are lots of ways to save money," she said. Call ABC with your medications, your income level and your Medicare card number, if you have one." Ms. Ganier said, "We are ready to be everyone's partner in getting this job done." |
