Advantages of Digital Hearing AidsArticle submitted by Raphael Weizman of the Denville Hearing Aid Center. A one-year study by Sweden's University of Linkoping, one of the world's leading audiological research centers, found that people wear advanced digital hearing instruments twice as long as they wore older non-digital hearing aids. In addition, digital users were better able to understand speech, and were more comfortable with the sound of their own amplified voice. The study also showed that, over time, digital hearing aids improve speech recognition by up to 25%. The limitations of traditional hearing aids have been a hurdle in getting people to consistently wear their instruments for long periods of time. The success of fully digital instruments in providing clear sound, free from noise and distortion, means users will wear their instruments longer and realize the long term health benefits. The newest digital hearing aid provides even better speech understanding than its predecessor models which were used in the University of Linkoping study. In addition, the newest hearing aids use a more powerful computer chip and some models are small enough to fit completely in the ear canal. Digital hearing aids deliver crisp, clean sound and are available in a variety of styles and colors to address personal taste. |
