Respite Care is providing a family member or caregiver with temporary relief from the ongoing circumstances they might presently be facing with an ill relative.

In today's world more people leave their hometowns and establish ties in other cities. When a family member becomes ill and needs help the burden of the care is placed on fewer members. If the ill person is lucky enough to have a significant other to care for them, that person will need help from time to time to maintain his or her ability to be the primary caregiver.

Finding help may feel like an endless search when you're weary. People do not realize the resources available to facilitate that help. Here are a few places to consider first, the social work department at your local hospital will have a list of agencies that provide respite care, and the local office of senior citizens is another excellent source of information on agencies nearest you.

When the responsibility of caring for a family member becomes overwhelming, or even before it does, having an agency in place to give you respite time is essential. You cannot be an effective caregiver yourself when you're exhausted and frustrated. The key to making it through a difficult time is planning.
