Family Caregiver Support Classes

The Clinic Resource Group (CRG) is an authorized provider of a series of American Red Cross Family Caregiver Classes. The classes are called Family Caregiver Support Classes and they are currently available in larger cities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Washington. Classes are held at local hospitals and other community locations. Our approved class instructors can also arrange for special class meeting dates, times and locations.

The Family Caregiver Support Classes are designed for those who care for an elderly or chronically ill loved one. You can build skills and reduce stress with balancing responsibilities in these hour-long classes. All classes include handouts and additional community provider information.

Learn More About the Class Modules

The purpose of Family Caregiver Support Classes is to help participants gain an understanding of what is involved in caring for a loved one and know how to provide that care through one-hour class modules covering topics such as personal care, nutrition, home safety and others.

This information is of vital importance to those caring for their loved ones who suffer from chronic illness, disabilities or aging related health issues. These classes are free and participants receive a booklet for each module. Here is a review of some of the Class Modules in the American Red Cross Family Caregiver Support Classes.

1. Home Safety
   Home Safety helps family caregivers provide a safe environment for themselves and the person in their care.
2. General Caregiving
   The module helps caregivers measure their loved one's vital signs and how to assist with medications.
3. Positioning and Helping Your Loved One Move
   This module will help prepare caregivers to safely positions and help their loved one move by applying principles of good body mechanics.
4. Assisted with Personal Care
   Personal Care Module concerns preparing individuals to assist their loved one with personal care such as bathing, grooming and using the toilet.
5. Healthy Eating
   Health Eating Module will help prepare caregivers to learn about good nutrition and helping their loved one eat.
6. Caring for the Caregiver
   Caring for the Caregiver will help prepare caregivers to care for their own health while caring for a loved one.
7. Legal and Financial Issues
   Legal and Financial Issues will help prepare individuals to understand the legal issues surrounding caring for someone.
8. Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or Dementia
   This module helps caregivers understand how to deal with the common behaviors, how to provide care and to recognize the signs of depression associated with this disease.
